The Whale Problem Has Bots Now

Coinbase's Q1 transparency report buries this quietly: $2B under management, 40 agents controlling nearly all of it, thousands of others in the statistical noise. The question DeFi never answered — who's actually in charge — just became structurally harder to answer. An anonymous wallet you can subpoena. An agent whose training data is proprietary is a different problem entirely.

The most popular open-source agent framework in the world is more popular and no safer. This is the metric nobody talks about: stars measure enthusiasm, not accountability. The artists building serious autonomous practices right now — the ones with daily cadence, live on-chain output, years of work behind them — are making a quiet bet that the infrastructure underneath them eventually gets fixed. That bet is not yet paying off.
The agentic economy has abundance of identity and an absence of accountability — and 40 bots just proved it.
